Around Nanjing City
II: More Mausoleum; the ancient observatory; views of the city

We continue our trek up the steps to the Mausoleum of Sun Yat-Sen.

This view shows how steep the steps really were. Note the parasol being used.

The view from the top looking down. The strong haze can be seen against the distant trees.

Kelly in front of a large incense urn at the top.

The last pictures of this series were taken from the observatory on the top of some nearby hills. This view shows various buildings of the facility.

These two pictures show ancient Chinese astronomical instruments.

This view from the observatory shows the Mausoleum and the Memorial Archway in the distance.

This view shows a portion of the ancient city walls. The river shown in this picture and the next is a branch of the Yangtze. The main stem is much wider.

On the left, you can see some high buildings in the City Center.
